My tribute to Jeffrey Smart
I've always loved the artwork/paintings of Jeffrey Smart, probably due to his iconic/minimalist style, and this setting as glimpsed from the corner of my eye gave this personal appreciation of him enough attention, for me to snap this shot before walking into the Art Gallery of South Australia. It seems, later I found out, that, Jeffrey (not only being a well known Australian painter) was also born in Adelaide (which I didn't know), hence extra focus co-incidentally was found on the artist whilst visiting the gallery.
The weather in Adelaide during my
stay was in the high 30's, low 40s, and the glow from the shared State
Library's courtyard (I hadn't visited the gallery next door yet), not only reminded
me of his work, but the rising heat and strong colours also seemed reminiscent
of our many Australian landscapes such as at Ayer's rock. Thank goodness
for the air-conditioning and glass panelled library foyer.
Jeffrey Smart has been living in Italy since the 1970s. See
